Interesting. The author seem not to understand what the term "socialization" means, apparently equating it to "socializing." While part of socialization is learning how to interact with peers, it also means being taught to sit still and be respectful both of the teacher and of your peers who are still woking.

Actually, whenever I have heard people say that homeschoolers lose out on socialization, the person saying it means socializing.

School should definitely be a place to learn proper decorum. However, I find my child learns more about correct respect and manners when I am there to prompt him on appropriate behavior. My experience in school, and that of many other people, was that rude behavior went on with no correction from the teacher. Many teachers today feel they aren't even allowed to open their mouth when a student is disrespectful because the parent will complain and threaten the school. (We have a dear friend whose job may even be in jeopardy because he does not allow the teenagers he teaches to speak to him inappropriately - but in return for trying to educate the children on how to be respectful to elders, he gets parents trying to get him fired.)
